Overview

The General Manager is the chief operating leader of Polar Caves Park and is responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience while ensuring the long-term financial health and strategic growth of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager provides leadership across all aspects of the business, including operations, finance, marketing, human resources, safety, and capital planning. The role serves as the public face of the Park and fosters a culture of outstanding customer service, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to establish organizational strategy, annual objectives, and long-range plans.
  • Develop and execute the annual business plan, operating budget, and financial forecast.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, new attractions, operational improvements, and enhanced guest experiences.

Operational Excellence

  • Direct all day-to-day operations of the Park, ensuring a safe, clean, and memorable visitor experience.
  • Oversee facility maintenance, capital improvements, risk management, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead seasonal planning, staffing, maintenance, and operational readiness.

Financial Stewardship

  • Manage all revenue and expense activities to achieve annual financial goals.
  • Oversee budgeting, cash flow, inventory management, purchasing, financial reporting, and lender compliance.
  • Present regular operational and financial performance updates to the Board.

People Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and evaluate management and seasonal staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused culture built on accountability and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, HR policies, and performance management practices.

Marketing & Business Development

  • Champion the Polar Caves brand and visitor experience.
  • Create and execute on an annual marketing plan to maximize attendance and revenue.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive offerings, pricing, and customer feedback to strengthen the Park's market position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive management or supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading operations, budgets, staff, and customer service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to utilize financial and point-of-sale software.
  • Capable to walk daily at least 5 miles over uneven surfaces- stairs in varying weather conditions, lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Passionate for outdoor recreation and guest satisfaction

Work Environment

This is a hands-on leadership position for a seasonal outdoor attraction. The General Manager is expected to maintain a visible presence throughout the Park and work a flexible schedule, including weekends and an extended workweek during the peak operating season.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Fundraising & Communications Support

  • Handle membership and donor thank you letters
  • Coordinate donor stewardship program in collaboration with team
  • Process donations and memberships
  • Maintain and update customer relationship management systems
  • Draft communications including newsletters, emails, annual reports and project
    highlights
  • Assist with WordPress website updates
  • Assist with grant preparation, tracking and reporting
  • Assist with social media posting to Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Coordinate events and community outreach
  • Attend regular fundraising team meetings and program staff meetings

Administrative Support

  • Oversee general administrative functions, including managing digital files, organizing
    shared drives, and maintaining online office systems
  • Assist with Board meeting preparation and coordination
  • Greet office visitors including members, volunteers, donors and Board members
  • Pickup and manage incoming/outgoing mail and banking
  • Assist programs with administrative and operational needs
  • Handle files management
  • Coordinate office maintenance and vendor relationships
  • Track office related inventory and order supplies when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Ideal Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in communications, business, or related field a
    must; minor or coursework in sustainability a plus.
  • At least three years’ experience working in communications, marketing, business or
    administration
  • Fundraising and event planning experience a plus
  • Experience with Little Green Light or similar customer relationship management
    system preferred
  • Organizational social media experience (Facebook and LinkedIn)
  • Experience with Constant Contact, MailChimp and Canva preferred
  • Interest in non-profit work encouraged and non-profit experience a plus
  • Comfort in a busy office environment where you can wear multiple hats and
    multitask while still paying attention to details
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

Benefits Info: Wage range: $21 to $24 an hour depending on experience. 30 – 40 hours per
week negotiable. Benefits include: simple IRA match, wellness bonus, generous time off,
flexible schedule, and opportunity to grow.

PAREI is seeking a field technician to assist with the operations of several energy programs
including solar PV, solar thermal, energy efficiency, and healthy homes. This position is
currently part-time with the possibility of becoming a full-time role. As a small team, each
staff member plays a vital role in the organization, wears multiple hats, and collaborates
closely with fellow staff to achieve PAREI’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

Field Work (approximately 75%)

  • Conduct Solar Site Assessments to determine initial solar feasibility and interest
  • Conduct Solar Repair Assessments for solar water heating and do minor repairs such as charging glycol and if able, roof repairs such as replacing tubes and heat pipes
  • Respond to customer inquiries about solar and energy efficiency in conjunction with other staff
  • Conduct in-office energy consultations about home energy saving opportunities and available incentives as well as solar energy options
  • Conduct home energy walk-throughs to give DIY tips and/or determine their Home Energy Score
  • Perform Blower Door Tests for Homes
  • Conduct Healthy Home Evaluations
  • Assist with construction work when needed especially for ground mounted solar PV projects
  • Speak at educational workshops on energy efficiency and Solar PV
  • Attend energy-related trade association meetings
  • Host open houses and events to promote PAREI’s services

Administrative (approximately 25%)

  • Prepare interconnection applications for the utility – pre and post as well as track throughout project
  • Prepare Building Permits
  • Work with electrician to prepare electrical one-lines required by the utility
  • Prepare information needed to send to the Structural Engineer to approve roof layouts in conjunction with solar electrician
  • Scope jobs, work with suppliers and sub-contractors to prepare project estimates
